It will be broadcast as online radio service in 20 fishery harbors under the first phase.
In the second phase, it will be Broadcast Island-wide as an FM radio service, which is airing weather reports, ocean forecasting programs on natural disasters, music programs, radio documentaries on fish related information, and fisheries regulations and rules.
Minister expressing his views mentioned that Sri Lanka has prospered in fish exports after the revocation of EU fish ban. During the past 3 months, Rs.9, 000 million has been earned from fish exports and 37, 000 tons of fish stocks have been exported to European countries.
He also stated that the fisher community shall be responsible of preserving the fish resource for the benefit of future generations and engage in sustainable fisheries. All the parties engaged in blast fishing shall be arraigned, emphasized the Minister.
World Fisheries day is celebrated on 21st of November every year by fishing communities throughout the world.
