The objective of establishing this Cultural Centre is to prepare a platform out of Colombo to hold meetings of representatives from SAARC Countries to strengthen regional cultural relationships. Minister of Internal Affairs, Wayamba Development and Cultural Affairs S.B. Nawinne made an inspection visit to witness the progress of construction recently.

The Minister expressed that it is expected to complete the entire construction of the SAARC Cultural Centre consisting of a spacious conference hall and a cinema theatre by December 2017.  The Centre comprises of chalet and hostel facilities for SAARC Cultural Representatives and artistes.
