This was commenced on 21st September with a view to bring relief to drought affected communities in the region. Dry weather conditions during the past few months have resulted in a shortage of water with dwindling water levels in reservoirs and irrigation tanks in many parts of the country.
According to army media sources, troops serving under Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E), utilizing their own water bowsers are engaged in supplying water to communities which are hard hit by the dry spell experienced in the region. This initiative, taken under the directive of Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva has benefitted more than 70,000 people who were facing severe hardship in finding water for their daily needs. Army expects to expand their service to others areas as well.
