    Police Headquarters has decided to restructure the Wellampitiya police based on the interim report by the Special Investigation Unit of the Police Headquarters pertaining to an investigation being carried out on Wellampitiya police station. Police Headquarters is investigating whether the nine workers of the copper factory at Wellampitiya were released on bail due to an error made by the Wellampitiya police. Under the proposed restructure programme, a number of officials serving at the police station will receive transfers.

    Legal action will be sought against persons who disperse rumours or false statements that may cause panic and incite violence among the public, says the Department of Government Information. The department stated this issuing a communiqué on the rules and the general public must pay attention to in view of the prevailing situation in the country.

    Sri Lanka Army will launch a mega project to reforest Wilpattu Forest Reserve to mark the 10th anniversary of the war victory against the Tamil Tiger terrorists group.The mega reforestation project, organized jointly by the Sri Lanka Army and the 'Manusath Derana' TV channel on account of the completion of a decade after Humanitarian Operations against LTTE terrorism will get underway on the Victory Day (May 18) at Marichchakaddi in Wilpattu under the Army's 'Thuruliya Wenuwen Api' project.

    The Department of Prisons has permitted relatives of prisoners to visit the inmates tomorrow and Sunday.The permission has been granted due to the Vesak Media Spokesperson for the Department noted that the inmates charged with serious offenses will be granted the opportunity to meet their relatives under special security. In the two days visitors of the prisoners are allowed to bring food and things for the inmates.

    President Maithripala Sirisena will pardon 728 prison inmates in view of the Vesak Poya day this year. The main ceremony to release those prisoners will be held at the Welikada Prison premises under the patronage of the President on Saturday.
