    69th National Day of Sri Lanka Celebrated in Nepal

    Embassy of Sri Lanka in Nepal celebrated the 69th Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka on 04th February at the Embassy Premises.



    The program commenced with hoisting of the National Flag by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka W.S. Perera in the presence of Sri Lankan community, Nepali friends and    well-wishers. Thereafter the National Anthem was sung in Sinhala and Tamil languages. Two- minute silence was observed in honor of all the National heroes who had sacrificed their lives for the motherland, followed by lighting of the ceremonial oil lamp by the Ambassador, Embassy staff and some Sri Lankans.



    Multi religious observances were conducted by four religious dignitaries representing Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Islamic faiths and thereafter, the National Day messages of the President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister were read.



    Addressing the assembled gathering the Ambassador highlighted the importance of the event and the relations between Sri Lanka and Nepal and latest political developments in Sri Lanka. At the end of the event traditional Sri Lankan food was served to the guests.



    An alms giving (Dhana) was also organized at the Official Residence on 4th February and over 20 members of Mahasanga and nuns were present at the event.




    A Reception was also organized at Hotel YaK & Yeti, Kathmandu on 6th February to mark the occasion and Rt. Nanda Bahadur Pun, Vice-President of Nepal graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Over 300 guests, including Rt. Speaker, Ministers, Foreign Secretary, Chief Secretary, Senior Government Officials, Foreign Ministry Officials, Members of Diplomatic Corps, Representatives of International Organizations, Business Entrepreneurs, Journalists and members of the Sri Lankan Community were present.



    Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador apprised the relations between Sri Lanka and Nepal and the significant political developments that have taken place in Sri Lanka under the leadership of the President and Prime Minister.
