National Vesak Festival – 2017 at Wattarama Temple

The National Vesak Festival – 2017 will be held at the ancient Wattarama Temple in Kegalle from 7th to 12th May.

The main celebrations will be held on 9th May under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena with the participation of the Mahanayake Theros of three Nikayas, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and foreign dignitaries.  

 

Therefore, the infrastructure facilities of the temple are being developed at present. This includes the construction of the dharma salawa by the Army, which can accommodate around 2,000 people, rehabilitation of the old ‘Pothgula’ by the Archaeology Department, and the development of the internal road system.


Many religious events will be held at the temple during this time.
