Sri Pada Season ends, President pays homage to God Saman's statue Featured

The Sri Pada pilgrimage season has come to an end.

The Sri Pada Pilgrimage season which commenced on the Unduwap Full Moon Poya Day came to an end on Wesak Full Moon Poya Day. Hundreds of thousands of devotees joined in the pilgrimage on the last day.

The statue of God Saman and the the gold jewellery (devabharana) was taken to the Pelmadulla Rajamaha Viharaya with the end of the Sri Pada season on Friday.

 

President Mahinda Rajapaksa  paid homage to the statue at the Pelmadulla Rajamaha Viharaya.  President Rajapaksa also opened the newly constructed Ravana Devalaya and Saman Devalaya in the temple premises where the Statue of God Saman and the Devabarana are to be placed. The President also called on the Viharadhipathi of Pelmadulla Rajamaha Viharaya and Chancellor of Uva University, Chief Sangha Nayake Thera of Sabaragamuwa province and Chief Incumbent of Sri Padasthanaya Ven. Bengamuwe Dhammadinna Thera and offered pirikara to the thera.

 

President Rajapaksa also spoke with the  devotees who were at the Pelmadulla Rajamaha Viharaya.

 

Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne and Provincial Minister Athula Kumara Rahubadda were also present.
