President pays attention on the issues regarding Gem and Jewelry ^Featured

A discussion on the issues regarding Gem and Jewelry industry was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at the President’s office yesterday (5th).President was briefed about the issues faced by industrialists and businessmen.During the discussion, the issues arisen due to the 15% of import tax and the adverse effects resulted on that was discussed and several proposals of National Gem and Jewelry Authority were presented to the President.

Attention was paid on problems of approvals from Government Institutions and delays in issue of mining licenses.It was discussed regarding the problematic situation occurred in Government Institutions and land Institutes when freeing lands for gem mining.The President who advised the officers to provide solutions for the problems that can be solved immediately and to hold a meeting to discuss on the other issues regarding problems on 12th of June with the participation of other parties.

Minister Daya Gamage, Member of Parliament A.A.Wijeytunga, Secretary for the Mahaweli Development & environment Anura Dissanayake, and the President of Gem and Jewelry Authority Peshala Jayarathna, and other officers were present in this event.
