    Ms. Akila Thirunayaki, a resident of Mulliyavalai, Mullaitivu, who recently clinched two gold medals in the 5000m and 1500m events, along with a bronze medal in the 800m event at the recent Asia Masters Athletics Championship in the Philippines, had the honour of meeting President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday (06). This meeting took place at the Northern Province Governor’s Official Residence.

    n a strategic move to propel the Northern Province into an era of unprecedented growth, President Ranil Wickremesinghe has unveiled a visionary development plan for the Northern Province, placing significant emphasis on the role of universities in driving these initiatives.

    Addressing a meeting with Jaffna University students, President Ranil Wickremesinghe highlighted the pivotal role of universities in the nation’s development. The President stressed that these academic institutions would play a crucial part in steering Sri Lanka towards stability and prosperity as well as ensuring the success of the planned development projects in the Northern Province.

    President Wickremesinghe passionately called upon Jaffna University students to actively participate in these development transformative endeavours, recognizing their potential contributions to the transformative journey ahead.

    President Ranil Wickremesinghe declared a prompt allocation of funds to tackle health and education issues in the North by giving priority to identified needs.

    Specifically, initiatives will be undertaken to allocate land for the teaching hospital in Jaffna and allocate funds for the recruitment of teachers to fill vacancies.

    President Ranil Wickremesinghe underscored the significance of religious harmony for economic development. He expressed his intention to expedite the development program aimed at restoring the revenues lost during the war in the North back to the region, highlighting the substantial role that religious leaders can play.
