Sri Lankan Government has decided to construct a Sanitary Land Fill in Aruakkalu in the Puttalam District and to transport solid waste by train from a transfer station at Meethotamulla. The proposed Sanitary Land Fill will be constructed in keeping with international standards.
Education Ministry has called for applications to fill vacancies for the Tamil medium teachers in estate sector schools. Applications have been called under the conditions outlined in the special gazette dated August 08, 201r. Closing date for the applications would be September 05, 2014.
The second drought relief project of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), spearheaded by Mrs Damayanthi Ratnayake, President, ASVU, got underway at Horowpothana Divisional Secretariat area with another consignment of drinking water and dry rations.

The construction work of the artificial island at Hambantota seaport is in progress. It is being set up in the sea in an extent of 100 acres. The construction work will come to a climax in 2015. The structure has been protected well to withstand the monsoon period.

Work on a number of rural bridges out of a total of 10 under construction in the Badulla District are already nearing completion under the programme to build 1,210 bridges country-wide for linking villages with towns and cities. The project was launched under Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa’s direction.
