The Navy, Coast Guard and Army personnel were deployed to control an oil spill in the coastal area in Dikovita, north of Colombo, on Saturday (08 September). A leak in a pipeline carrying oil to the Muthurajawela Oil Refinery Complex from oil tankers has caused the spill that had floated along the sea and polluted the beach stretch.

The Joint Proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, and Hon. The Army released another allotment of land in Jaffna to its rightful owners yesterday in keeping up with the government's policy of returning civilian lands used in past for secuirty purposes. The land in extent of 4.4 acres which was previously utilized by troops for service requirements was thus released during a ceremony held in Myliddy, a statement from the Army said.
