The mainstream media in the country, websites and other social media made bald headlines about me in the last few days. Certain members of parliament too expressed different views. A no confidence motion against me has also been handed over. Therefore I thought of explaining my position to this respectable house.
Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa and his advisors, instead of working to take our country to the heights that our country could have achieved soon after the conclusion of the conflict in 2009, chose to run our country to the ground. He made our country heavily indebted on the one hand, having borrowed at exorbitantly high, commercial rates; while taking decisions that made Sri Lanka withdraw from the international stage, on the other, thus making our country and our people isolated and shunned by the world. He hides the fact that time after time, major donor countries voted against Sri Lanka at the time, in international financial institutions.

The bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Australia, which have been extremely cordial for the last seven decades, have seen an upswing in recent years. Whereas United Nations 14th Vesak Day Celebrations and Conference were ceremonially commenced at Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) Colombo on 12th May 2017 with the blessings of most Venerable Mahanayaka Theros in Sri Lanka and most Venerable Sangaraja Theros from overseas, members of Maha Sangha and other religious dignitaries from many parts of the world representing 72 countries, and Hon. Adventure Tourism and Adventure Training is fast becoming a popular industry.
