    President Ranil Wickremesinghe emphasizes the necessity of a new economic reform program for the country’s economic recovery. He urges collective support from all citizens to prevent the next generation from inheriting the hardships of past economic crises.

    President Ranil Wickremesinghe underscored a concerning trend in the healthcare sector of Sri Lanka: the significant emigration rate among trained medical professionals. He noted that approximately 30 to 40 out of every 100 doctors or nurses trained in the country opt to leave, a circumstance deemed unfavourable for the nation.

    State Minister of Transport Lasantha Alagiyawanna revealed that foreign individuals seeking a driving license in Sri Lanka will have the convenience of applying for it directly at the airport from April 15th 2024. Upon exiting the airport, they will be able to obtain their driver’s license swiftly and efficiently.

    Following productive discussions, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Sri Lankan authorities have achieved a staff-level agreement on economic policies, marking a significant step in concluding the second review of the 4-year Extended Fund Facility (EFF)-supported program and the 2024 Article IV Consultation.
