01. Relief to police officers who have faced difficulties due to political reasons (Document No – 08)
The proposal made by Hon. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, to provide reliefs to police officers who are not being undergone any disciplinary action among 129 officers recommended by the Committee of Officials appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers to consider appeals which have been submitted by police officers who have confronted political revenge, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. It has been decided to implement the said recommendations not to affect the seniority of officers in police service.
01. Strengthening the coordination between provincial councils and linear ministries
Matters have been discussed on issues confronted during implementing activities of Provincial Councils efficiently and productively at the beginning of the Cabinet Meeting, and has focused on matters regarding recruitment of teachers to schools under Provincial Councils, filling vacancies of posts of Principals and Teachers, difficulties faced in obtaining resources for Provincial Councils, and waste disposal. The need to impalement development projects with the close coordination between Provincial Councils and Linear Ministries was also emphasised.
01. Treaty on extradition between the governments of Sri Lanka and Ukraine (Document No - 08)
The proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence, to enter in to an agreement with the government of Ukraine on extradition of criminals, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
01.Provide reliefs for the people who are affected by moragahakanda - kaluganga development project
The Moragahakanda – Kaluganga Development Projects which was commenced in 2007 as a Mahaweli Project with the view of providing water for agricultural activities in the North Central Province and providing drinking water for people in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee, and Matale Districts, is the largest multipurpose river valley project being currently implemented in the country. Almost 65% of the project has been completed and it is planned to fill water in the reservoir before the rain starts in Maha season 2016. Therefore, 2,512 affected families in Navula and Laggala-Pallegama Divisional Secretary Divisions due to the land acquisition should be evacuated immediately. 984 families have already been granted compensation and the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, togrant compensations for the rest 2,228 families in order to evacuate them immediately, so as to complete the project within the due time period, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
