    General (Reitred) Nanda Mallawaarachchi Major has been appointed as the Director General of the government’s Multipurpose Development Task Force, says the President’s Media Division (PMD). This appointment comes weeks after the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to establish a Multipurpose Development Task Force as a Government Department enabling to provide 100,000 employment opportunities for qualified low income youth.


    Talks are underway to introduce an Information Technology Engineering degree centred on Mahindodaya laboratories in schools countrywide by the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL), Information and Communication Technology, Higher Education, Technology and Innovations Minister Bandula Gunawardane said.


    Students who follow courses at University Colleges that were initiated during the Mahinda Rajapaksa era before 2015 would be given the opportunity to continue their courses up to degree level, although the previous UNP led Government attempted to close them down, Information and Mass Media and Higher Education Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardane said in Parliament yesterday.


    The Sri Lanka Embassy in Beijing is closely monitoring the evolving situation of the coronavirus infection in China and is presently in discussion with relevant Chinese authorities in Beijing and Wuhan as well as Sri Lankans in Wuhan and other parts of China.The Embassy has been receiving queries from Sri Lankans in Hubei province especially in Wuhan as well as from their relatives in Sri Lanka
