The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka hosted a large delegation consisting of representatives from the World Business Society of Tokyo Small and Medium Enterprise Consultant Association (WBS) who are currently visiting Sri Lanka with the objective of evaluating investment opportunities and opportunities of partnerships between Sri Lankan Small and Medium Enterprises and Japanese SMEs.
Sri Lankan's in Jakarta celebrated Deepawali at the Embassy at Jalan Diponogoro on Saturday(29 October) with Hindu religious observances, lighting of lamps, as well as Bajan and dances. Karu Jayasuriya, Speaker of the Parliament, attending the 135th Session of the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva, was invited to chair the emergency session on Syria called by the IPU Assembly on 25th October. The Session had before it a Resolution titled “The war and the severe humanitarian situation in Syria, particularly in Aleppo” presented by Germany and Mexico.

Sri Lanka Port Authority (SLPA) has decided to grant bonus premium without any changes to all the Port workers in December 2016. According to the SLPA, this decision has been reached in the monthly progress review meeting based on the advice of Minister of Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranatunga.

Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera and Indonesian Foreign Minister Madam Retno Marsudi agreed on Wednesday (26 October) to take forward several initiatives on the bilateral political and economic fronts and also strengthen cooperation within IORA as well as international fora with a view to elevate the relationship. The two Ministers met in Bali, Indonesia on the eve of the 16th Council of Ministers of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).
