President Maithripala Sirisena said that he had never made arbitrary decisions when it comes to appointments in the judiciary. He further said that the recent appointment of a High Court judge which led to controversy was done following a request made by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL).

An island-wide combined raid, conducted by the Police and the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) on Thursday (9th Feb.) was able to arrest 563 Army personnel who are Absent Without Official Leave (AWOL) or considered having deserted their posts, Military Spokesman, Brigadier Roshan Seneviratne said.
Eight containers containing used vehicle parts released from the Customs to its consignee who is engaged in vehicle assembling was based on a decision made by the cabinet of ministers on the basis of legal advice given by the Attorney General.
