An island-wide combined raid, conducted by the Police and the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) on Thursday (9th Feb.) was able to arrest 563 Army personnel who are Absent Without Official Leave (AWOL) or considered having deserted their posts, Military Spokesman, Brigadier Roshan Seneviratne said.
The 69th National Day was celebrated by the Consulate General in Sydney on 3rd and 4th of February. Eight containers containing used vehicle parts released from the Customs to its consignee who is engaged in vehicle assembling was based on a decision made by the cabinet of ministers on the basis of legal advice given by the Attorney General. This Cabinet decision was communicated to the Sri Lanka Customs by the Secretary to Treasury and not at the will of the finance minister, as certain parties with vested interests were trying to mislead the general public with ulterior motives of tarnishing the image of Minister Ravi Karunanayake, a press release issued from the Finance Ministry said.
