    BOI hosted Japanese business delegation

    Japanese business delegation, headed by Tadayuki Seiki, Chairman, Japan-Sri Lanka Business Co-operation Committee, and Senior Advisor to Itchu Corporation  consisting of 28 leading Companies recently visited Sri Lanka to have a first-hand experience of the business and investment climate here.


    The delegation consisted with representatives of leading Japanese enterprises and other companies including Leopalace 21, Mitsubishi Corporation, Mizuho Bank, NTT Data, Mitsui and Co. India Pvt Ltd, JGC Musashi Industry Inc., Energy and Technology, Nippon Express, KPMG, Eikei Corporation, NEDO, as well as officials from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Japanese Embassy in Sri Lanka.


    The delegation also met the BOI officers to receive a better understanding of the role of the BOI in the process of approving and facilitating Foreign Direct Investment into Sri Lanka. Representing the BOI,  Mrs. Renuka Weerakone, Executive Director (Investment and Promotion), Dilip S Samarasinghe Director (Media and Publicity), and Nilupul De Silva Director (Promotion) met the delegation.

     
    The BOI officials briefed the delegation on the BOI’s role in facilitating investment and also its management of Export Processing Zones. In addition, the Japanese side was briefed on issues such as land ownership for foreign enterprises and were apprised on the BOI’s newly established One Stop Shop.

    The visiting Japanese companies expressed interest for investments in a number of key sector including aquaculture, real estate development, energy, electronics and automobile components and other important economic sectors in Sri Lanka.
