Sil campaigns were organized in all schools in view of Wesak Week.  The President  visited the Nalanda College, St. Paul’s Girl's school and Ananda College and interacted with the students who were participating in the Sil campaign and meditation programs.  The President was joined by Minister Bandula Gunawardena.

Around twenty lakhs of children in schools throughout the island observed Sil and engaged in meditation.  

The Ministry of Education  declared its annual Vesak week from May 12-18. The objective of organizing   meaningful Vesak programs in schools is to foster noble human values in the minds of student population as preached by Gauthama Buddha.
