    Better citizens will emerge through practicing religions teachings

    Government is totally committed to spread the Theravada Buddhism across the world, said Presidnet Maithripala Sirisena.


    He made these remarks participating at a religious ceremony to declare open the relics chamber of the Nelligala International Buddhist Centre, Kobbekaduwa, on Tuesday (13th Dec.).


    The President pointed out that even though people engaged in religious observances on a daily basis, better citizens for a country will emerge only through practicing the teachings of respective religions. He further said that the main cause for the deterioration of the society is, people not following the religious teachings.


    Buddhism is the only religion which can calm the restless mind of the people and at present the western world also paying more attention to the Buddhism, the President said.


    President Sirisena also planted a Nelly Sapling at the temple premises.


    In parallel to the religious ceremony the President declared open the Nelligala access road and unveiled the Seven Buddha statues. The Founder of the Nelligala International Buddhist Centre, Ven. Wathurakumbure Dhammarathana Thero presented a Metal Buddha Statue to the President and Parliamentarian, Mayantha Dissanayake also presented a souvenir to the President appreciating the great service rendered by the President for the development of the Sambuddha Sasanaya.
