    Unstable mental condition leads to suicide

    Annually, 112 pregnant women commit suicide, according to Health Education Bureau of Sri Lanka. Approximately 400,000 pregnancies are reported per annum in Sri Lanka out of which 125-140 pregnant women died due to various reasons and suicides has become a key issue.

     

    The psychological issues faced by these women have become the main reason for committing suicides. Factors such as gender discrimination, gender based violence, poverty, hunger and malnutrition, over work, and also the psychological changes inside the woman are directly affecting to these mental issues.

     

    According to the Dr, Amal Harsha de Silva, the Director of the Health Education Bureau, the psychological of the woman will be in a better place if society plays its role correctly.
