Akashi happy with welfare progress of IDPs |

 Japanese special envoy, Yashushi Akashi on his 18th visit to Colombo yesterday(9), visited several welfare camps housing the internally displaced in Vavuniya and expressed his satisfaction over the progress. He said that much progress had been made and appreciated measures taken by the Rajapaksa administration to speed up the resettlement process of the displaced.
Akashi pledged Japan's fullest support towards the Government to expedite the resettlement process and assured that other nations too would follow suit to help Colombo. He was pleased the 180 program to resettle the displaced and noted that Japan would be a role player in assisting the de-mining process of the North to ensure civilian safety.'That will boost the return of civilians to their former places of residence', said Akashi.
