    Terrorist-Political-Human Rights Nexus in Canada

    April 16, 2014

(By Maya Anthony)Terrorist groups worldwide operate through community, welfare, social, cultural, humanitarian, human rights and organizations many registered as charities, non profit organizations and NGOs. During the recent sessions, investigations revealled that the world's most august human rights body - the United Nations Human Rights Council - was infiltrated by the LTTE, a proscribed terrorist group. For its role in terrorism in Sri Lanka and in India and terrorist support activities, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam is a proscribed terrorist group in the US, Canada, UK, EU, India and a number of other countries.

However, when the United National Human Rights Council met in March in Geneva, the LTTE fronts from US, Canada, UK and elsewhere appeared in Geneva lobbying the UN, Western governments and NGOs. Posing off as rights activists, the LTTE ideologues, propagandists and activists representing Global Tamil Forum (GTF), British Tamil Forum (BTF), Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE), National Council of Canadian Tamils (NCCT: Nediyawan, Irumporai Group) and Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) addressed a number of events including at the Geneva Club. In the case of the LTTE, its premier fronts in Canada, the National Council of Canadian Tamils (NCCT) led by Ranjan Sri Ranjan alias Ramanathan Sri Ranjan and Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) were led by Gary Anandasangari alias Shakthi. Previously Ranjan Sri Ranjan was President of CTC. Although CTC office bearers and members are implicated in illicit arms procurement, the Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) contributed C$ 50,000 to Amnesty International (AI) in Canada in January 2012.

Although the LTTE is criminalized (designated, proscribed or banned), the Ministry of Defence of Sri Lanka revealed that the LTTE is operating on Western soil through innocuous organizations. "The LTTE advances its interests through community, charity, non-profit, human rights, media and other fronts. Despite attempts to conceal, the links between CTC and LTTE propaganda, financing, procurement, etc., their activities are extensive and have penetrated deep into the system." The Director of Communications of CTC in 2005, Sahil Sabaratnam (28), is serving 25 years in a US Prison for procuring weapons for the LTTE. Sahil was arrested in New York in August 2006 buying 20 SA - 18 heat seeking missiles, 10 missile launchers, 500 AK 47 weapons and other military equipment. Sahil operated together with his brother in law Thani Thanigasalam (38), who headed the cell and Satha Sarachandran (27), also member of the Canadian Tamil Congress. In a wikileak, the then CTC President Rajan Sri Ranjan identified another member of the CTC Satha Sarachandran to a US diplomat in Canada.

Trained in the use of firearms by the LTTE, Satha Sarachandran was also President of the Tamil Youth Organization (TYO) from 2003 to 2005. The statement issued by Satha Sarachandran through his lawyer whilst serving his prison sentence in US clearly indicates the TYO - LTTE links and its extensions to the CTC.

Immediately after the arrests, the CTC Board met in Toronto decided to disassociate themselves with the LTTE procurement conducted in the US, in order to continue its uninterrupted activities. Strangely, CTC's Director of Public Relations David Poopalapillai said that he did not know Sahil Sabaratnam, the CTC Director of Communications. Under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1373, the Canadian Tamil Congress was designated a "terrorist entity" on March 20, 2014. The Canadian Tamil Congress (EN/CA/2013/06) is among 14 terrorist front organizations designated under UNSCR 1373.

It is not only the CTC and NCCT that masquerade as rights activists but the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE), another "terrorist entity" designated under UNSCR 1373. Cofounded by Selvarajah Pathmanathan alias Kumaran Pathmanathan (KP), the LTTE procurement chief and Vishvanathan Rudrakumaran, TGTE is planning to host a propaganda meeting at the Delta Toronto East (Nelson Room) 2035 Kennady Road Scarborouh ON M1T3G2 and a fund raiser at the Scarborough Convention Centre 20 Torham Place Scarborough ON M1X0B3 Toronto on Saturday April 26, 2014. KP remains on an INTERPOL Red Notice issued by India in connection with the Rajiv Gandhi assassination, Vishvanathan Rudrakumaran (IN/CA/2013/379) designated "terrorist person" under UNSCR 1373. Participation in the activities of designated entities and by designated persons especially propaganda and fund rasing is an offence under UNSCR 1373. (Courtesy:  Asian Tribune)
